DUBS App Trailer (Product Launch Motion Design)

Project Overview

DUBS is a social platform designed to help teen gamers connect, chat, and build community around shared gaming interests. As a product launching to both teens and parents, the platform’s first impression needed to communicate clarity, energy, and trust.

The goal of this project was to introduce DUBS through a product launch trailer that captured the app’s personality and values while clearly explaining what the platform is and why it’s safe, engaging, and fun for young users.

Process & Collaboration

I was initially brought into the project to animate in-app screens that were still under development, helping visualize how the product would function before those interactions were fully implemented in the app itself. As the project evolved, the team asked me to take on the full animation based on my previous character-driven work for DUBS.

Working closely with the marketing and design teams, I reimagined the animation structure to create a more dynamic and engaging narrative. I introduced additional scenes, expanded character interactions, and enriched the visual storytelling to better reflect DUBS’ tone and community-focused spirit.

Using DUBS’ existing illustration system as a foundation, I designed new characters, objects, and environments that matched the established style. These illustrations were later refined by the DUBS illustration team, ensuring consistency across the brand.

Motion, Sound & Voice Direction

I animated the full trailer with a focus on pacing, clarity, and character-driven motion, shaping the experience to feel lively, expressive, and emotionally engaging. Because the trailer was intended for launch across multiple platforms, I created multiple aspect ratios and versions for YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook.

To support cross-platform distribution, I adapted compositions to expand cleanly across formats without cropping animated elements, and produced multiple cuts that allowed the marketing team to test different video lengths and performance.

I attended the voiceover recording session and provided direction to the voice actor to align tone, pacing, and delivery with the animation. Since the voiceover was finalized later in the process, I adjusted animation timing to maintain clarity and rhythm. I also added placeholder sound effects and music to guide the final audio production.

Final sound design and music were produced by Side Global.

My Role

  • Visual Development: Designed characters and objects aligned with DUBS’ illustration system
  • Motion Design & Animation: Animated the full product launch trailer across multiple formats
  • App Interaction Animation: Visualized in-app interactions prior to full product implementation
  • Audio & Voice Direction: Provided voice direction and sound references for final production
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Worked with marketing, design, sound, development, and external partners

Outcome

The final trailer became a key launch asset for DUBS, used across multiple social and video platforms to introduce the product, communicate its values, and establish a strong, character-driven first impression for both teen users and parents.
